with digital TV coming in next year what are you folks doing about getting updated. I don't have cable TV and wonder about the converter box and how accessible is it. I have a VCR hooked up to my stereo system and listen to TV through the stereo. My TV is old and I wonder where to start for updating my system. I hope I can contact the person who hooked my stuff up 18 years ago but if not I need info on what to buy so I can listen to a few TV programs. I don't have cable TV or dish TV. I posted here once but can't find my original post from yesterday so it probably did not go through. Hope this one does.

update. I now have a VCR/DVD combo hooked up. Anybody know what the select drive is used for? The circuit city helpers put braille that I made up on buttons of the machine and I wondered what drive select did. I now can play DVD's which is great, although I have to use the remote control to skip around to different episodes and rewind some but that's okay. I didn't know if anything at all could be done with this situation. Anyway, if there is info on drive select let me know what that is. sorry for the long post.

is it possible to select tape or dvd? and if you have cable, I don't think you need a box.

I don't have cable and have figured most of the system out. The panasonic VCR/DVD has a tuner in it and that is digital. Because I live in a condo, the folks who run things will be changing the atenna for TV on the roof which I am hooked up to. As I understand it, I won't need a box for conversion because the tuner is already digital and will pick up the digital signal when the antenna outside is changed. I hope everything works in 2009 like it is supposed to.

update. The TV does not work. The digital signal was tested yesterday so now I guess I either buy a converter box or new TV. Hope circuit city who filed for bankrupcy will at least come in and hook a new TV up. Am so disappointed, but had told the tech who came in here originally I needed a new TV. He wanted to do an easy thing and just hook the DVD player up I think. Anybody else having problems with the TV signal switch?
